Common Country Analysis 2024

The 2024 Country Analysis (CA) presents a comprehensive and forward-looking overview of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s development landscape.
Grounded in data analysis and systems thinking, it captures the country’s progress, identifies persistent challenges, and highlights emerging opportunities on the path toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Developed with contributions from 18 UN agencies comprising Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Country Team, the CA reflects a collaborative, inclusive process involving civil society, the private sector, academia, international organizations, and International Financial Institutions (IFIs). This wide-ranging engagement ensures that the analysis speaks to the country’s most pressing needs while promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
Drawing on insights from a consolidated UN data repository and over 170 key reports, the CA also integrates recommendations of UN human rights mechanisms and regional perspectives. Its Western Balkans Common Chapter addresses transboundary challenges such as trade and investment, transport and energy connectivity, water resource management, and demographic resilience.
The CA serves as the analytical backbone for the next UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2026–2030), which will shape the United Nations’ strategic partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina. It also aligns closely with the SDG Framework and EU accession priorities, ensuring coherence and synergy across key development priorities.
The CA is designed as a living document, continuously updated through annual horizon scanning and stakeholder consultations. Further engagements are planned throughout 2025 to refine priorities and foster joint solutions, making the CA a dynamic tool for evidence-based planning and decision-making.
