Refugees are people who have fled war, violence, conflict or persecution and have crossed an international border to find safety in another country. They are defined and protected by international law and must not be expelled or returned to situations where their life and freedom are at risk. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, refugees can seek international protection (asylum).
