The Council of Europe, the European Union in BiH, the United Nations in BiH and the OSCE Mission to BiH welcome the 25th anniversary of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a significant milestone made possible by the people across the country who have worked hard to ensure that BiH continues on its course toward a more stable future with opportunities and ever-brighter prospects for its younger generations.
In preparation to COVID-19 response, UN Women in BiH conducted two waves of the Rapid Gender Assessment of COVID-19 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The results of the second wave of the assessment were presented online today to government representatives and international partners. The results of the assessment show that the impacts and implications of COVID-19 are different for women and men, and that they are exacerbating the existing gender inequalities in BiH.
"Today, as we mark Human Rights Day across the world, I join the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina in commemorating 25 years of peace in their country.", said Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in a special statement commemorating 10th and 14th December 2020 in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"This important anniversary is an occasion to redouble our commitment to peace and reconciliation, sustainable development and human rights for all", said the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, in a special video-message on the occasion of 25th Anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement/ 14 December 2020
The UN is deeply concerned about yet another potential humanitarian situation unfolding in some parts of the country due to the lack of shelter options for several thousand migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers.
The United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) expresses its concern with the lack of agreeable solution for winter preparation of the Lipa Emergency Tent Camp, which for health and safety reasons necessitates the effective closure of the facility today, adversely impacting 1,200 people on the move.
