The United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina Welcomes Announcement by Authorities to Investigate the Use of Force by Police in Velika Kladusa against Migrants/Refugees Accommodated in Temporary Reception Centre “Miral”
The United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomes the announcement by the Minister of the Interior of Una Sana Canton to launch an internal investigation into the conduct of police officials during an incident which took place in the Temporary Reception Centre “Miral.”
A video uploaded on YouTube and shared by various news outlets in Bosnia and Herzegovina shows police officers exercising the use of force against what appears to be a resident of the “Miral” Temporary Reception Centre in Velika Kladusa, Una Sana Canton.
Subsequently, the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its humanitarian partners working in “Miral,” the Danish Refugee Council, issued official communication to the relevant Federation entity, Una Sana Canton and Velika Kladusa authorities, requesting their cooperation for an immediate investigation into the matter.
The United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina is cognizant of the security challenges authorities sometimes face while carrying out their duties. In tandem, it calls upon all actors, at all times, to abide by local laws as well as international human rights norms and standards including those regulating the use of force by the police.
The United Nations in BiH condemns any forms of violence against any individuals or groups.
