Bosnia and Herzegovina will host a high-level international conference on Women, Peace and Security to mark the 25th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. Location
About the event
2025 marks a historic moment for the global Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, with the 25th anniversary of UNSCR 1325. Against this backdrop, the international conference From Gender Justice to Sustainable Peace: A 25-Year Vision will be held in Sarajevo from 12–13 June 2025, convening over 100 national, regional, and international actors to assess progress and shape future commitments.
The conference is jointly organized by the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the initiative "Women Lead the Way towards Peace and Security in Bosnia and Herzegovina," implemented by UN Women, UNFPA, and IOM, supported by the UN Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund (PBF). The organization of the conference is also supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
As a country that emerged from conflict 30 years ago and pioneered key legal and institutional reforms, Bosnia and Herzegovina has become a regional leader in implementing the WPS agenda. From landmark justice cases to inclusive National Action Plans, its experience offers valuable lessons for the world.
