First Performance of “Game” by Mostar Youth Theatre in Sarajevo on 24 September

On Saturday 24 September, the theatre audience in Sarajevo had a chance for the first time to watch an awarded theatre play “Gama” by Mostar Youth Theatre, in the Chamber Theatre (Kamerni teatar), as part of the “12 Days of Peace” campaign.

Mostar Youth Theatre in 2021 created a theatre play “Game” based on testimonials of refugees who then resided in a refugee camp “Salakovac” near Mostar. “Game” is a result of efforts to depict and demonstrate the life stories of refugees to include them in the local community by promoting tolerance and cohesion.

In Summer 2022, Mostar Youth Theatre received 6 awards (best play, best directing, best scene movement, and three awards for actors) during the 25th Festival of Academic Theatres in Novi Sad.

“We live in a time when there are more than 100 million people who were forced to flee their homes due to wars and lack of respect for human rights. This is well over double the number from 10 years ago. That is 100 million people like you, like all of us. 100 million people who just “want to live”.

Many citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina have experienced and survived the horrors of war and they know well the value of peace. People in this country know that peace is not easily achievable, but its benefits of it are priceless. They know that peace is the only way forward.

UNHCR is proud that the campaign “12 Days of Peace” was initiated two years ago in Bosnia and Herzegovina and we wish it would spread throughout the world. We wish that the messages of peace from Bosnia and Herzegovina will reach all those countries from where people are forced to flee.

We all deserve and have right to live decent lives.”

By supporting the performance of the play “Game” in Sarajevo, UNHCR joined the “12 Days of Peace” campaign to highlight what people who are forcibly displaced have to face when there is no peace and remind all that with peace we can all have a better life. The campaign was launched two years ago by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with UN agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Following a memorable performance, actors on stage read a message of peace signed by UNHCR Bosnia and Herzegovina.
